The first day of the Shetalishte trail runs along the Adriatic coastline — from the border with Croatia to Kamenari. The route connects ancient fortresses, seaside promenades, and monasteries, offering views of Mount Orjen and the scenic Bay of Kotor.
The town was founded in 1382 by the Bosnian king Tvrtko I as a fortress. Over the centuries, it passed from the Ottoman Empire to the Venetian Republic, was under Russian protection, French administration, and Austrian rule, endured Italian occupation, and later became part of Yugoslavia. Today, Herceg Novi is a coastal resort town with a rich history and a unique old-port atmosphere.
